This is really the "crown jewel" of our youth program...every year we load
up a team of high schoolers and adult staff and head off to the Mexicali
Valley of Mexico for a remarkable week of ministry in the little town of Ejido
Hidalgo. Sponsored by Azusa Pacific University, Mexico Outreach involves
over 5,000 young people annually. APU sets up and runs three different
base camps (big tent cities really) with hundreds of youth from different
churches staying in each one. They provide our meals, a camp speaker,
and great music. The time spent in the base camp is more than just "where
we stay"...it's a great experience with other groups, lots of opportunity to
focus on God and our ministry, and a ton of fun.
Then...it's off to our ministry site every morning. We are greeted by
dozens of eager children who are ready for a dazzling day of vacation Bible
school type activities, projects, games, and more fun than one can even
imagine. They start looking forward to our next visit as we leave at the end of
our week; it really is the highlight of their entire year. And the opportunities
that we get to serve, to teach, to share, and to just love these kids simply
cannot be described.
Mexico Outreach is an experience that truly changes lives. Whatever you
thought you might want to do with your spring break could probably wait until
summer or next year; don't miss this!!
